Washable domestic wool blend
The higher the content of wool, the warmer and softer it becomes, but pure wool also lacks durability and absorbs water. On the other hand, a purely acrylic material that has high durability and low water absorption also has disadvantages. Through trial-and-error testing in various snowboarding and skiing conditions, we found that the optimal ratio of wool and acrylic, which works well in various temperatures and types of snow, is 30% wool / 70% acrylic. Made with quality domestic yarn that does not stain or fade, the LADE Beanie is washable at home. In addition to our optimal wool blend, we use 100% acrylic wool suitable for wet spring snow, and 100% wool with lanolin for daily use, so the LADE Beanie is always fit for purpose.
Natural leather that functions even in snowy mountains in the harsh winter
Genuine leather, which has been used by humans since ancient times, is most suitable for use in the snowy mountains. Seeking durability, I tested several domestic natural leathers that are flexible and comfortable to wear at low temperatures, including goatskin, deerskin, and pigskin. Ultimately, I decided upon pigskin leather as the most suitable for purpose. It’s a soft, durable leather, has excellent water resistance enhanced through oiling, and will last many years even in snowy mountains. The name of LADE’s leather ear flap, “Hog”, refers not only to the pigs they’re made from, but also of course to a greedy person. The LADE Beanie is for powder-hungry riders who go to the mountains greedy for good snow.
High-tech material for comfort and durability
As I refined the Beanie’s engineering, I decided to incorporate a lining with a high-tech mesh fabric that enhances comfort and keeps skin dry. The wool doesn’t touch the skin directly, while sweat is efficiently absorbed and diffused to the outside where it evaporates, avoiding sweat return. It also helps prevent stretching, preserving your Beanie’s shape and guaranteeing a good fit for many years.
Starting in 2020, in addition to the high-tech mesh lining, you can also select 100% wool, compressed knit fabric, or fleece. More alternatives, more choice.
LADE BALACLAVA
Protection and strength that complements the comfort and durability of your Beanie
During the most severe winter months, the LADE Balaclava is a natural base layer to complement your LADE Beanie. The Balaclava helps enhance the Beanie’s durability because, with that base layer protection, it doesn’t need to be washed as often. Of course, it can be used under your helmet, with or without the LADE Beanie, depending on season and weather. Because it is a UV-cut fabric, it can also protect your skin against sunburn and snowburn in the spring season.
We are continuously refining the LADE Balaclava by reviewing our cutting and sewing process and incorporating feedback from customers as well as the front lines of our nearby sewing factory.
With the low price, many of our clients buy two Balaclavas to use in rotation or as a backup. Carrying a dry one in your backpack or pocket will help you stay comfortable and dry all day, even in tough weather.
In addition to regular sizes, we make the LADE Balaclava in smaller sizes, so all ages can have a great fit. Kids burn a lot of energy and their engines run hot. In contrast with a thick fleece balaclava that doesn’t wick sweat properly,
becoming cold and wet and fogging up their goggles, the relative thinness and efficient wicking of the LADE Balaclava is exquisite. LADE kids and many others have tested it extensively and love it underneath their LADE Beanies or directly under their helmets.
